Set Up VPN
Hosts File
In order to set your workstation up for VPN, you first must have the correct entries in your hosts file. Try the following steps to do so:
- Start Menu – All Programs – Accessories
- Right Click on Notepad and Run As Administrator
- In Notepad – File – Open
- Navigate to c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
- Type filename as *.* and hit enter.
- Double click the hosts file to open it.
- Make sure the following entries match what’s in your hosts file, if it doesn’t correct or add them.
- 10.246.1.20 safeware2
- 10.246.1.30 cmhsaf05
- Save the file and close Notepad.
VPN Setup
Once your hosts file is set up, you’ll want to set up your VPN next. We won’t need a 3rd party program for that.
- Open up your start menu.
- In Start Search or Search Programs and Files, type in: VPN (don’t press enter yet)
- In the Start Menu, click on “Set up a virtual private network”
- Set the following:
- Internet address: vpn.safeware.com
- Destination name: Safeware VPN
- Click Next
- Input your assigned username and password and click connect.
- Go ahead and close out your VPN connection (either via the control panel or via the taskbar icon. See your team lead if you’re unsure how to do this.)
This will not only connect you to Safeware’s VPN, but it will also add a new entry in your adapter section for this VPN.
VPN Usage
After setting up your VPN, all you will have to do is navigate to the VPN icon in (network and sharing center – change adapter settings), or it might show up when you click on your network icon down by your system time. Just right click on the VPN icon and Connect.
Once you’re connected to the VPN, you will need to navigate your web browser to safeware2/pm to get to the Safeware SIMS system. You will log in with the same credentials as your VPN.
Use the guide at ESP Claims Process or SHI Process depending on the call.
Whenever you are done with SIMS, go ahead and disconnect your VPN.
